Installing 6GB DDR2 800Mhz ram kit on early 2008 iMac and mid 2009 MacBook

Sometimes, these older Macs did not register higher capacity ram when installed together especially for highest capacity 6GB (1 x 2GB and 1 x 4GB). Before you decide that your kit is faulty and return it to the supplier, please try this:

1. Turn off the Mac and disconnect from power
2. Open the memory slot and take out both memory sticks
3. Install only one 4GB ram
4. Connect the power cable and start your Mac with only one 4GB ram. Mac should boot up and register new ram.
5. Turn off Mac, and disconnect the power cord.
6. Install 2GB ram alongside the now installed 4GB ram.
7. Close the memory slot
8. Boot up your Mac. Your Mac should now boot up and run with 6GB ram.
