Installing RAM to full capacity on older Macs - problems
Older Macs tend to get stuck when installing RAM to total capacity or upgrading from small GB RAM to higher GB RAM. We recommend doing the following.
Install only one RAM at a time. In this example, we install 2 x 8GB into the Mac with 2 RAM slots. (this same will apply for Macs with 4 RAM slots)
1. Turn off your Mac and disconnect the power cable.
2. Remove all existing RAM
3. Install one 8GB RAM. Close the slot, connect the power cable, and start your Mac. Mac boots up normally.
4. Turn OFF Mac and disconnect the power cable. Open RAM slot.
5. Add another 8GB RAM, close the RAM slot, connect the power cable and start Mac again. Mac is now running with 16Gb RAM installed.
Note: In case when Mac won't start with one RAM installed, check that the RAM specification is compatible with your model. If it is and Mac won't boot up, don't hesitate to get in touch with our
support here.
