How do I choose the right memory for my Mac?

How do I choose the right memory for my Mac?

The first thing you will need to know is your Mac model and series, processor and capacity and year of make ( for example Apple iMac 3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (21.5-inch - DDR3) Late 2009 ).

Then you will need to determine, what type of memory is supported by your Mac ( it could be DDR, DDR2, DDR3 or DDR4 ).

You can easily find out this information by following step by step guide below:

If you aren't sure what Mac model you have or what kind of memory it takes, you can get your System Profile through the Apple menu. The profile will tell you what kind of memory and how much memory is in your system.

STEP 1: Open the Apple menu ( do this by clicking on the Apple icon located in left hand side upper corner ) and then select 'About This Mac'.

STEP 2:   Select "System report..."

STEP 3:   Hardware overview

The System Profile screen will open, showing the Hardware Overview. The Hardware Overview provides you with all the information you will need such as your Mac model, model identifier, system serial number, CPU type/speed, and total memory capacity. (The picture above is for illustration only and the actual info on your Mac will be different.)

STEP 4:   Current memory information

In the Contents section on the left side of the screen, click Memory. The Memory Slot information will appear, showing your current memory configuration. This information will help you determine which slots are filled with which type of memory, and how many slots are still available to install new memory. (The picture above is for illustration only and the actual info on your Mac will be different.)

STEP 5: Choose Your Upgrade!

Hopefully you should now have enough information to choose your upgrade, but if you are in any doubt please get in touch at support@flexxmemory.com or call us on 0800 195 4072 where we will be happy to help. For the quickest solution, please have your serial number available.
